Sure. [they will sit down on the floor somewhere.] If you need it, I can actually conjure up a bit of food.

That's fair enough. I'm a bit concerned about how long it might've been since all of you last ate or drank anything, but an ordeal probably isn't good for the appetite.

I ate some fruit from the birthday cake, but I'm not sure if that was even real.

[hm. well, good thing they're not going to be locked in any time soon and possibly out of the reach of food, right.

The birthday cake...?

We made a cake. Or...I guess Damien made a cake. But I put fruit on it!

[georeject]

I'm afraid I don't follow. [a beat] Also, Damien can bake?

[moonlightbeast]

The fruit was a topping to make it tastier. And yes, he can bake! Surprising, isn't it?

That is actually very endearing, yes. Why were you making a cake in the first place?

[moonlightbeast]

It was Kagemaru's birthday.

[georeject]

Ah, yes.

... And who was Kagemaru, exactly?

[He opens his mouth like he's about to answer, but pauses.]

[He. Sounds unsure of himself.]

... I take it that you couldn't really see them properly?

[moonlightbeast]

Not really, no. They were sort of just...there. And they looked like an indistinct blob at first, but as we spent more time with them they sharpened up and started to have limbs and such. But it was still difficult to see them.

[georeject]

Hm... a little like the residents' forms at times, then? Marigold doesn't always maintain consistent shape either.

[moonlightbeast]

Sort of like that, yeah. But it grew more distinct as we gave it an identity. Yasusada-san gave it a name, and then the rest of us made a birthday cake for it.

[georeject]

Do you feel like that might mean anything on a larger scale...? Well, I suppose it's too early to tell.

[moonlightbeast]

It's kind of early, but...you know, it kind of reminded me of how some of the Residents weren't quite sure of who they were, when they first talked to us. And how they seem to become more distinct the more we talk to them. So maybe that's like...what they were before they met us?

[georeject]

[they nod.]

I was thinking along those lines as well.

Maybe...that was the point? We were seeing how they came to be?

[georeject]

Maybe the opposite? Steel mentioned that they once gave up their original form—and perhaps it's the same for the others—which is why they no longer have a proper one.

You could've been seeing how to restore them.
